What is aluminium?

Aluminium is known as a light metal and possesses a high specific strength. Compared to steel, aluminium is about half the weight yet has the same strength but a larger volume.

"Aluminium has the following advantages."

A major advantage in aluminium processing is that the energy required is one third less than that for steel processing. This material is also excellently suited for machining, as aluminium alloys have a high degree of hardness and thus simplify machining. However, certain basic conditions must be taken into account when processing aluminium.

Aluminium processing.

The material aluminium is well suited for machining. But before starting with turning, milling and drilling, it is essential to know which type of aluminium is being used. This is because the machining of aluminium is different for each type and depends on the alloy and the structural condition of the material. In addition, when machining aluminium, attention should be paid to the fact that during the machining of aluminium, the temperatures that occur can quickly reach the melting point. As a result, the molten aluminium sticks to the tool and thus clogs the chip space. For a perfect aluminium processing result, the proper interaction of material properties and the machining tool is essential.

Machines and tools for aluminium processing.

There are a number of ways in which aluminium can be processed. Among these, the most familiar are cutting, milling and drilling. Aluminium can also be formed into the required end-product by grinding, turning and welding. A prerequisite for each machining method is special machines and cutting tools with rake angles and saw blades. All tools should be adjusted accordingly to the light alloy aluminium. In most cases very hard metal or diamond for aluminium is used for cutting.
