Hammer HNC FAQ Control & Software

What control software does the machine have?

The EdingCNC controller including EdingCNC control software is offered for the machine.

Can I use a different control software?

A different controller or control software can be configured for the machine.

Do I need additional software?

EdingCNC does not include a CAD/CAM surface. External programs are required to generate a G-code which can be read into EdingCNC.

Which CAD/CAM software is recommended?

2D machining, CNC beginners:
CAD: nanoCAD
CAM: Estlcam

2D/3D machining, CNC advanced:
CAD/CAM: Autodesk Fusion360

Can I also use other CAD/CAM software?

It is possible to use other software. It is important that the CAM software has a post processor for EdingCNC or outputs a G-code which can be read by EdingCNC.

What is the difference between 3-axis and 4-axis output stage?

The 3-axis output stage can control all three axes of the machine (X,Y,Z).
The 4-axis output stage can control another fourth axis. This fourth axis is connected to the machine's connections. A fourth axis is e.g. a rotary axis, which is mounted on the machine table.

Can the machine process free forms?

All three / four axes can be moved interpolating, i.e. simultaneously. 3D surfaces or free forms are possible.

Which power supply does the machine need?

1x 110-230 V +/- 10%, 50/60 Hz
HF-Variant: 1x 230 V +/- 10%, 50/60 Hz

Do I need a computer to control the machine? Which computer is required?

For the control of the HNC a separate computer with installed EdingCNC control software is required.

System requirements:
  • 1.4 GHz Atom processor
  • 4 GB RAM
  • Windows 7/8/10 32/64-bit
If the control computer is also to be used for CAD/CAM applications, the system requirements of the CAD/CAM software must be observed.

Can the machine be operated without a computer?

Operation without a computer is not possible!

There is a D-Sub 25 connector on the machine, my computer does not have this interface?

The link between computer and machine is the control controller. It converts the serial signal from the computer into a parallel signal for the machine. The interface from the computer to the controller is USB.
