What began in 1858 with traditional joinery is today a modern interior construction company with a clear vision: to create spaces that combine function, aesthetics, and atmosphere. Originally emerging from a village joinery, Holz und Design Wurm has continuously evolved over generations. In the early 1990s, Georg Wurm shifted the focus to high-quality hotel and restaurant furnishings in the Nuremberg region. Since the official handover on December 31, 2024, Anton Wurm has been managing the company. He has been strengthening the team since 2019, bringing extensive experience from both practical work and his studies. Today, his focus is mainly on administrative tasks, customer care, production management, and human resources, while project management is handled by the team. "We deliver complete room concepts, from design to implementation," he says, describing his approach.
Sanding Expertise on a New Level
As part of the company's continuous development and modernization, Wurm invested in a new sanding machine that significantly optimizes production and processes. "We wanted a sanding machine that suits us," says Anton Wurm. Since November 2024, the Findustry 1354 from Format4 has been in the workshop—precisely tailored to the company's requirements.
The wide-belt sander processes solid wood, veneers, and lacquer coats—from coarse calibrating to the finest intermediate lacquer sanding. Various units, including cross sanding, superfinish, and planetary head units, a calibration roller, a structuring brush, and a Scotch-Brite brush for dust removal, ensure uniform, high-quality surfaces. "Today, we can complete around 90 to 95% of our sanding work without changing belts," explains Anton Wurm. The demanding projects in the hotel and hospitality sector benefit from the machine's precision and flexibility.
Connected Workshop
Digitalization has been a matter of course at Wurm for decades. As early as 1987, Georg Wurm introduced the industry software Kuhnle, which today handles calculation, ERP, time tracking, and inventory management. In 1994, the company was the first joinery in Bavaria to implement a pure CAD/CAM solution—a milestone that modernized production for the long term.
Today, data from Imos flows directly into production, ensuring that planning, design, and manufacturing are optimally connected.
For design and visualization, the team uses pCon.planner in combination with the Hottscan measuring system, which captures spaces quickly. After the order is confirmed, a precise measurement is taken with Flexijet, which forms the basis for accurate planning and production data. This creates a seamless digital process chain.
High-Standard Equipment
The machinery is as versatile as it is coordinated: In addition to the new Findustry 1354, a 5-axis CNC processing center Rover A from Biesse, a Uniteam 5-axis CNC for nesting tasks, a Homag edge banding machine with return system, and a horizontal panel saw from Mayer with automatic positioning ensure precise workflows.
Experience Meets New Talent
Holz und Design Wurm employs around 40 people—many of whom have been with the company for decades. "Those who have been here for a while, stay," says Anton Wurm. The next generation is also particularly important to him. Apprentices are involved in projects from the very beginning and take responsibility for complex, high-quality work. The quality of their work is also reflected in the recognition they receive: In the last two years, the apprentices have been honored with the Bavarian State Prize.
Trust and personal responsibility generally characterize the corporate culture. Flexible working time models and regular team events promote motivation, cohesion, and a good working atmosphere. Anton Wurm sums it up: "I am extremely satisfied with my employees."
Down-to-Earth and Future-Oriented
Whether it's cinema fittings, hotel furnishings, or a café—Holz und Design Wurm delivers sophisticated interior construction projects reliably and on time. Long-standing clients such as Cinecitta Nuremberg, Hotel Dirsch, or Bäcker Schmidt appreciate the trust-based collaboration over many years.
"We are known as a reliable partner, for both our customers and our employees," Anton Wurm summarizes. Precision, well-thought-out processes, and craftsmanship characterize the production, supported by modern technology and digital workflows that ensure a consistently high level of quality across all projects.
